I'm on the Delaware and have a mechanic who is mobile and works at Foxes Marina, but takes soooooooo long to look at and repair problems. He has a few people working for him, but takes forever to help on smaller jobs. Does anyone know of some good mobile mechanics along the Delaware River who aren't always bogged down with work and are looking for work?
Small jobs that don't need an engine pulled or drive worked on, should be quick to respond to. Summer is only 6 months long and we would like to get everyday in the sun we can, without waiting a long time for a mechanic to look at our problems and repair. I'm sure you'll all agree!!!

I hate to say it but a mechanic that doesn't take a long time, hmmm....doesn't exist. I put my boat in the water mid June, took it to the mechanic at the next marina up the river - still there with an engine pulled for repair. Took it there b/c my mechanic is so busy he doesn't have time. I wish my boat would break down in the winter while on land so I could use it in the summer.
Good luck -

I have asked different shops around Lake Norman. Why don't they hire more mechanics during the summer months?
The answer I get is there aren't any available mechanics to hire. Hmmmmm, I find that hard to believe.

So I asked shop owners this question. Are you ok with losing jobs to your own mechanics doing work on the side, on the weekends? Usually I get a blank stare as they ponder the question. Then I asked them why don't they open their shops on the weekends and rotate their mechanics to cover the extra work load? Everyone wins......mechanics make some overtime money, shop owners make some extra money, boat owners get their boats worked on in the busy summer months.

There is a shop based in Brigantine called Mid-Coast Marine, the guy who runs it is Mark. I got excellent referrals to them from two different sources. I have not worked with them yet, but I expect I will. They service the whole area, including the Delaware. I don't know how small they will go in terms of jobs, or what you are looking to have done, but you may want to call and speak with Mark. http://midcoastmarinerepair.com
