Boat length for Marina Charges

Around here, transient is about the only thing charged by the foot. I tell I have a 37, unless it's a side tie and then a confess to 40 overall. Monthly charges are based on the size of the slip.

I think our marina does a nice job with pricing. It's the lenght of the boat not counting swim platform and anchor pulpit. Price is competitive with other marinas and they don't nickle and dime you. Service is somewhat pricey, but always done to a very high standard. Staff is friendly. They are in the SERVICE business.

Our local marina charges everyone by the length of their boat, but one, Aarrh and Aarrh. He gets charged by the length of boat that the slip could hold. But, we had to re-arrange 2 slips to fit his 370 in here. The docks are designed for 34' or less. RIght now, we have a lot of empty slips.

Usually it is for LOA, but I really get peeved when they try to charge me for LOA and stick me in a short slip that I cannot get to the front of my boat. It seems to me, if your going charge for the entire length, you should have access to it.

Your survey measurment is likely the waterline length. If the 35'11" is from SR, it is LOA and does include your pulpit and swim platform, unless you have a new JUMBO swimplatform like Shawn (NorCalBoater). If your boat is all original, get a spec sheet from Searay and show marina management. You are screwed, however, if they included your anchor, like Frank said above. If this is your setup, they'll make you pay for that anchor protrusion...

My boat is 33'1" LWL and 35'8" LOA. My contract has the boat listed as 35.8' and I didn't tell them that number. They must have it in a book somewhere.

When people ask how big my boat is I say "almost 36'." When marinas ask, it's 34'.

Towards the end of the season I like to put my boat in bow first, so I can enjoy the sun setting in the west. During the summer, it's not an issue but now I like to take advantage of what I can.
Problem, in my 30 ft slip, I'm fine stern in, but if I drive in bow first, the slip isn't long enough to safely enter on the swim platform.
So I guess what I'm saying is I prefer a slip at least as long as my boat, preferably a few feet longer, so I won't try to squeeze into a shorter slip. I may even bump up to a 36 ft next season.
