Boat Insurance?

We went through Global Marine Insurance. They are an agent/broker for various companies. We have a policy with ACE through them. Originally our policy was with Zurich, however a couple of years ago they decided to drop pleasure boat coverage and wasn't offering renewals. Global Marine had us all set up with ACE upon the end of the Zurich policy.

I shop almost every year for insurance for home, car, & boat. NBOA couldn't touch the boat rates I was getting with Global Marine out of Traverse City Michigan. I've asked my home/car insurance broker to try to combine my boat with the house/car policy but couldn't beat Global.

I got a quote from Global last year and they wanted close to twice what I was paying NBOA. These insurance companies have so many variables built in to how they figure rates you are best get quotes from at least 2 or 3 brokers. What works best for most clearly does not work best for all. By doing that you will have effectively shopped a couple dozen underwriters I would imangine. Any time these insurance survey threads come up on CSR, NBOA appears to win most people's recommendation hands down. Don't short change yourself though, get quotes form several and pick the best rate/coverage combination that works for you.

I agree Jason. Boating in open waters compared to rivers/lakes (and I don't mean the great lakes nor disrespect to anyone on a lake) but our prices are much higher here in Florida than many places. Also, I called NBOA who writes with Progrssive and they were twice as much as my Progressive coverage I have now. I asked how that could be and he said it was up the underwriters. I think that's bull. Middlemen want their take too thus the increase in price. Check around and what may be good for you won't be worth a crap to someone else in a different region.

I have ACE Insurance and have had it since 2005. They handled my claim for damage during Sandy timely and fairly.

I have Boat US, I did not shop around but I found the price to be reasonable, and the membership saves me 10c a gallon when I fill up, which I guess adds up over time. Plus I get a regular boat magazine.

You don't have to be a member I suppose to get the insurance, but I find it easier to just sign up for the package deal.
