Im currently shopping around for an insurance company. The 2 best quotes I got for the same coverage was from travelers and old united. I have experience with travelers as they covered my old boat and were very good to me when I lost my boat in sandy. Time wise and money wise. But old united quoted me 400 less. Does anybody have any experience with them? Good or bad? Being very happy with travelers, is it worth not spending th 400 and go elsewere?
Another question is this. I got 4 quotes all together. The 2 highest being nboa 1950 and boat us 1900 and the two lowest being travelers 950and old united 550. How can there be such a huge price difference between them. It doesnt make sense to me

I have Travellers and it is WELL BELOW any other quote I got. I wanted to consolidate all my insurance with Allstate, USAA, or any other provider, but none could match the Traveller's policy quote. Luckily for me, so far I have not needed to call on them for anything, but it's good to know they treated you well. I was worried enough over the Travellers quote, that I re-verified all my coverages were correct.

Have had Boat US and NBOA 3 years ago switched to United Marine Under Righters from Kentuckey there Rates on olded boats are good. On 2000 34 dancer insured for $65000 rate is 850.00.

Progressive for up to $250,000.

I have hastings ,330 per yr 1000.00 deductible,23,500.00 for total loss, plus some extras for equipment.

I highly recommend travelers. If you read the fine print, they are the best company to go with even tho they may be higher-priced,in my opinion

Thanks for all the responses. So I guess it looks like I'm in the ball park. Now I just need to decide if I should go with travelers or these old united guys.
Katricol
thank you that's exactly the response I'm looking for

I have charter lakes and love them so far. How did the survey go? It was today right?

Usually a lower insurance price is possible thru the obvious relative overheads, or the big one on potentially risky items is better risk modelling.

I'd say there's something about your set up that tells them you'll take care of your boat, not leave it vulnerable, etc etc.

Survey was moved to the 9th and I spoke with the ins broker and all coverages are exactly the same so I'm probably gunna go with old united.

Did you do a line-by-line comparison? If you did then it's just a question of who wants the business more and the "rating" of the company. I have found that the disparity btwn boat insurance quotes are as wacky as those with auto insurance. I'm sure you've gotten an education about your boat policy (like I did). There is equipment coverage, personal effects coverage, towing, deductibles, and limits that you can choose for each of these categories. Make sure your quotes are giving you the exact same coverage for each company. There's also the question of "stated value" and "actual value, " which I never understand. But I have a friend who had a '99 330DA totaled in the storm and he got a check for $110K, and the NADA value on the boat is closer to $60K.

FYI, BOAT/US and NBOA always seem to be way off the mark with their prices. Just something I've noticed. I'm sure others will disagree. You can also check with Markel and Foremost, who specialize in recreational stuff (Boats, RVs, ATVs, PWCs, etc). I had Allstate and they were fantastic when I lost my boat.

If you want to support the anti-American owner.

no lie. Read here----->SNOPES

now back to your regularly scheduled non-political thread ;-)

I shopped around with Boat US, (CRAZY HIGH), my local AllState insurance rep, ( High, but not the level of Boat US), and then after a suggestion on CSR, I called Bob Peck with Triton Insurance. He was extremely helpful and great to deal with. Very reasonable and very helpful. If interested, give him a call. 401-619-5500.

I have all of my insurance with Allstate but was NOT happy with the payout when I took a side flash lightening hit 2 seasons ago. Did $5k worth of electrical damage and paid out $2k with a $1k deductible. I know it's small potatoes compared to a total loss but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. Shopping & replacing them is on my to do list!!

Wow I'm surprised to hear the NBOA was one of the higher quotes, we switched to them two years ago and saved $500 yr. and so did my buddy. I guess I was really getting hosed!!!!! I'm shopping again . Sorry Johnathan I suggested NBOA.

NBOA has very good rates for boats up till 10 years old after that they dont want to know you. They wanted full survey and very pricey increase of almost 40 percent more for less coverage.

I do have to say, NBOA is taking care of my boat with some repairs and covering some items in my dock box, I can't complain they agreed to everything with no arguments .

(IMIS) International Marine Insurance Services here in Grasonville, MD has treated me very well. Have seen some other great reviews. Check them out.
