Boat hoist bunk question

I recently picked up a pair of bunks for an older shore station my dad gave me. A buddy of mine suggested running a strip of angle iron along the bottom of them for extra support. Is that really necessary?

The I beams are about 11 feet apart from front to back. It seems like if it was necessary they would already be on the bunks.
