I ate lunch in my car today in the back lot of Skipper Buds (Marblehead, Ohio.....Lake Erie). This boat caught my eye and I thought "what the heck is that"?

A closer look revealed.....it's a Carver 34! I actually like it although the up-swept bridge is a little crazy.

I pretty much like any boat I see, they are floating works of art to me.

Hey your in my neck of the world! Did you check on my boat for me. I too find myself liking the looks of that boat... The inside fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired though.

Scott, how do you really feel? ha ha

Zorba, your boat ran fine for me today.

Good to hear. She needed her legs stretched. It's been three weeks... I assume the marina is half empty?

What brought you to that part of the world?

Alex I am up here for an advanced marine canvas class all week. Here is a marina shot from today:

It looks like a jet boat landed on a pt cruiser

That boat goes beyond FUGLY. It's also a very impractical design. With a hull shape like that it's essentially suited for inland lakes (excluding the Great Lakes) and river, and not even suitable for a coastal cruiser.

The bow has a very stubby entry angle that would beat you to death in a 3' or higher chop. There's also almost ZERO bow flare, so it's going to be a very wet ride in any chop. The slanted flybridge gives the appearance that it was an afterthought in the design process...."Hey, hold my doobie and let's see what it would look like with a flybridge."

Other than those things, it's still FUGLY.

Not a fan. But the 350 it is replacing was an aesthetic train wreck as well, though many say the interior was one of the best layouts in Carver history. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1382661018.922568.jpg

FUGLY

The fly bridge is angled so that when it's running, it looks straight/parallel with the horizon.

Carver has always let the exterior be dictated by the interior volume. Sea Ray makes a great looking exterior at the cost of interior volume. If you ever get a chance to see the inside of a carver it will floor you as to how much room they get from 34 ft. I wish Carver would redo the 28 Mariner......with out the recent styling cues.

Conversely, this is one of the best looking new boats in the mid 50' flybridge range. 54 Voyager

But I'm crazy and think this is a fantastic design too

I don't like the 34 personally. But I do like Carvers' look from a few years back. Voyager series in and around 2003/2004 were great! Fit and finish we're good too.

I do like that new Voyager too. Too each their own!

I just had a conversation with a friend two days ago about how I appreciated all boats and there wasn't one I thought was ugly.

...... Until now....

Personally, I'm a fan of Sea Ray and Sunseeker.... I think the Manhattan and Predator are sweet looking.

FUGLY

There is an older 32 Carver near us in our marina. It is about the ugliest boat I I have ever seen! I wish I had a picture of it but it broke my camera lens! Like the one in the link below but is worse shape.

Quint, thanks for the photo. I am one pier left.

You guys are going to give Carver370 a complex with all of these comments! While I tend to agree that they are not the most pleasing to the eye, I will say the interior room on some of the carvers is cavernous. My dad first "big" boat was a 350 mariner and that boat packed a lot of interior room in a 35' boat. It was ugly as sin but I have a fondness for it. His next boat was a 405MY and that thing was a condo interior room wise. And it handled lake Erie just fine. The only problem was the freeboard on it made it a sail in the lightest winds

Yes, I was harsh, but when you think back on Carver's designs over the years, I think there is truth to that statement. For some reason, this boat looks like a bath toy I had as a child.....it's almost cartoonish.

Seriously - imagine painting a grin on the bow, and putting an eyeball in each eisin panel. The 34 Fly HAD to have been inspired by Pixar.

I toured that boat at the CP Show. The interior is right out of Ikea (not that that's unique these days).

Don't worry about Carver370 - he knows a good-looking boat when he sees it. I'm surprised by the clean lines of the new Voyager. She's better looking than a lot of SR's.

HAHAHAH I was thinking the exact same thing. I was trying to make a crude picture of that before I even scrolled down and saw your post!!! I think Pixar is going to hire carvers design departmant for their next movie "BOATS"

Our first boat was a Carver, a 28 Riviera. It never won any beauty awards but was a tough little boat with generous sidewalks and safe railings. Her engine room was a nightmare. She could sleep eight, nine in a pinch and it took our family of five (plus the cat) on annual summer voyages of 500 Nm+ and touched all of the Great Lakes. With a wide beam and generous space between the engines, handling around the dock was a dream.

We had her for ten years and sold her for the same as our original purchase price. My beautiful Sea Ray can't come close to that in a value retention contest. So, maybe ugly isn't all bad.

No complex here, lol. Every manufacturer has a couple ugly designs, sea ray isn't exempt. My carver looks exactly like a boat, I don't think that 34 does. The 34 and 40 are going after the euro designs of Italy if you look at some of the new Azimuts.

Watch these boats sell like crazy though just like the older Mariner models, nothing comes even close to the interior space in that size or price range brand new.

I will refrain from commenting on the new 510 fly.
