Guys, you are loading me up with answers today... thank you! Next question, I have a boat cover the puddles and sags in the front area of my open bow boat. Is there something i can put below that props the cover up so water rolls off instead of puddling? I have a broom i use now but i don't want to puncture or tear the cover... any thoughts?

Do you have a pole support in there now? If not, get one of the plastic cover vents for boat covers. Find the place in the cover that you can raise the highest. Follow the directions and cut a hole in your cover. Insert the two piece vent (Top and Bottom) and screw together. Then you can use your broom handle or better yet one of the adjustable aluminum poles. You can get these from most places that sell boat covers.

We used an adjustable aluminum pole (like a boat hook pole) that had rubber nubs on both ends to support the canvas on our Boston Whaler. This did not not require any modification to the canvas. We would extend it beneath the canvas to create a tent and water would roll right off. Friction held it in place once the canvas snaps were secured.

My mooring cover came with a couple poles to elevate the the cover and prevent sags. The adjustable pole had a male canvas snap on the end, and it mated to a female snap on the cover. That was attached to a reinforced area of the cover. Snap in the pole, extend the pole, and push up the cover. Voila, no puddling. It looked similar to this photo.

There are some other options, like a type with a finger that goes through a grommet in the cover. Also a type that just has a wide top to support the canvas. Search "boat canvas support pole" and you'll get a bunch of options.
