Certain marinas require us to keep a dinghy off the bow, which makes boarding a problem. I've done the lowering of the anchor (using it as a step), and thought about picking up a rope ladder....curious as to others that have this situation, and what their solution has been.

PMC, I'm not sure what you mean by "keeping a dinghy off the bow". Do you mean mooring it at the bow of the boat while you're in a slip? If that's the case, are you backed in, and are there finger docks you could secure it to?

I'm securing an inflatable dink to a bow cleat, and need to hop over the rail and climb down. The boat is stern in a slip, with boats on either side....no finger piers.

No dinghy dock? That sucks! I can't imagine my wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs boarding our dink from the bow!

+1 to Bay B' comment.

Or, you climb over the bow and drive the dinghy to a place they can all easily board.

One of the marina is very small in size (capacity), and the dinghy dock holds maybe 4...its always full. I do the over the rail bit myself and move the boat to an open area for the wife, kids, gear, etc. The dock needs to be clear for pickups only.

Boarding for my family is fine, ha, I'm looking to improve it for me!! One slip, and I'm finished.

I think your rope ladder idea might be the easy and the safe way to go.

Hahaha. See above video for excellence.

Previous boat was a 310DA and it had an accordion type bow ladder attached to the front. I imagine the PO used it for beaching and not getting wet. Pretty compact actually, but I didn't like the way it screwed up the lines of the boat and I don't beach so I took it off.

Do a google search for bow ladder and you may see something.
