My best friend is looking at a boat with 8.2 Bluewater gas engines and ask me about them, I told him that I really didn't know much about them but I could probably find out. So if you guys don't mind please chime in and gimme some info for him....Thanks in Advance.............

I don't think the term "blue water" indicates anything particularly unique about the motor. As far as I know they were the standard Merc offering. The Horizon's, I believe, were the higher HP model at the time. I could have that wrong...

Isn't the Horizon engine Mercury's closed loop cooled engine series?
There is also Mercury Seacore engine which is/was closed loop cooled.
The horsepower bump was designated with a "HO"
Mercury Bluewater inboard engines were a marinized series that came in 5.7, 7.4, and 8.2.
The difference between the Horizon, Seacore, and Bluewater?? Don't know exactly.

Hmm...I am pretty sure I've had boats with "Blue Waters" that were both raw and fresh water cooled?

The Horizon's of a certain vintage were the ones that had the water reversion issues. I thought those buggers were rated for a touch more HP than the non-Horizons of the time. I'm probably making that up :)
