Blue Angels to miss Commissioning Week

THAT REALLY S@$%KS!! That was a great day on the water with family and friends. Not to mention that I used it as a wonderful day with clients. Hope they come back soon

The Blue Angels are the feature act at the NAS Patuxent River Air Expo 3-4 Sep of this year.

The Blue Angeles show was canceled for next year (2012), not this May. The Thunderbirds canceled their Memorial day visit to Jones Beach this year so I know how you feel.

Thunderbirds canceled their Memorial day visit to Jones Beach, What? No Show this year or Next. WTF.

The Blue Angels are on this year. Here's the schedule for commissioning week.

Tuesday 5/24 from 11am - 4pm practice
Wednesday 5/25 from 11am - 4pm demonstration

Ok... I am not going to miss this again. Where is the best place to watch from the water? I assume that the Severn itself is the way to go. Will they be setting up "no float" zones? If so, could someone describe where they usually are?

Thanks,
Michael

I'll probably head up the Severn to anchor out for Wednesday night. Little Round Bay is a great spot.

No headliner at this years show, only war birds, aerobatics and a F-22 Raptor demonstrator. 2012 will have the Blue Angels and the Canadian Snow Birds (per Newsday)

Just heard the Blue Angels cancelled for Tues and Wed at the USNA. A pilot mishap in their last show??

From an on-line paper:
"The Navy has abruptly canceled the Blue Angels practice and air show planned for this week.
The Blue Angel pilots are in Pensacola, Fla. for extra training after a safety concern at an air show in Virginia over the weekend, said Lt. Katie Kelly, a Navy spokesman.
The incident happened during a lower-than-normal maneuver at the Lynchburg Regional Air Show on Sunday. The Blue Angels were performing a high-elevation version of their show - 8,000 feet in the air.
"There was a deviation from the standard flight parameters during the show," Kelly said.
The performance was halted and the Navy decided the team needed to head back to Pensacola for training and practice
The Blue Angels will not perform in 2012 due to scheduling problems, so the next likely air show over the Severn won't be until at least 2013.
The 2007 air show was almost canceled because a pilot died during a show in South Carolina, but the show went on. "

Arrrrrrrgh!!!!!!! I have the day off and friends coming!

Total bummer... Now I need to find a suitable alternate for a Thursday afternoon out on the boat with 2 of my high school buds now...
