Last week we went to PIB and arrived on Sunday hoping for an enjoyable week until Friday. We got a birth at the Crew Nest, and Sunday night the winds started. By Monday night it was done right uncomfortable in the slip. Tuesday was much better but the forecast was for thunderstorms and 20 knt on Thursday and 25- 30 on Friday, so off we went on Wednesday. It has been a weird and windy summer. I picked the wrong summer to stop being a rag bagger.

Oh bummer! I left on Sunday morning. I remember reading a post that you were headed down and I was glad that you were going to get some nice weather. I agree with you on the summer. '17 won't be recorded as one of my favorites for sure.

We've enjoyed this summer just like the summers in the past! We'd rather have a lousy day/time at the boat over a great time/day at work or at home!

We brought our 290 SS up for a long weekend beginning on Thursday 7/27. Water was like glass. We cruised from oak habor to Kelly's, to Cedar Point and back. It was beautiful all day. Then friday came and it was nasty! we took the ferry over to PIB snd watched all kinds of wind, rain and crazy docking. Saturday the weather was great but the lake was still horrible. We pulled out of Oak Harbor to see if it was doable and the quick answer was negative! Turned right around and took the ferry back over to PIB and temperature wise it was great. Sunday it was gorgeous again on the water and we took the 290 back to PIB for the day.

I agree Sunday was a great day at the bay - Sorry we missed you! Monday was even better - very little boat traffic on the lake and it was nearly flat as glass. In my opinion the nicest day on the lake so far this year. Hope it continues this weekend.

It hasn't been a great summer on Lake Michigan either. Between the Northerly winds, fog, rain, cooler temps, it doesn't seem like summer has started and we're well into August already. Praying for some decent weather for fall boating!!

I can't remember the last season that included a nice spring. It almost seems like summer is shifting later into the year.

On a lighter note, it's been an incredible fall. Now that summer begins in mid-September, I guess I have to shift my expectations and my calendar, but I'll take what I can get.

This is usually the time when the marina empties out and shorts/t-shirts are swapped for hoodies/jeans and dinghy rides and beer coozies are swapped for buffing machines and wax.

I'm still wearing shorts and t-shirts, and the boat is so chalky that I'm thinking I'll just wet-sand and leave it. I'll call it: "a mat finish - you know, like that grey Mercedes G-Wagon in parking lot." It's the latest thing...

We were on B dock at the Nest in August and a reasonably windy day hit us out of the north, but it was not a howler. But 1-2' rollers coming in from the opening west of Gibraltar is enough to knock your teeth out in that spot. Fortunately it was only one night and it went calm again.

A week previous we were at Portside in Kelly's and man was it raging. Waves were pouring over the docks from the southwest. It was the weekend of the golf cart poker run and it didn't stop dozens of intrepid Ohio boaters from coming in from the mainland. It was amazing to watch the docking skills (in a good way, not sarcastically).
