Those of you who have gone through the Manasquan Inlet may enjoy this video. For others, the Inlet is very narrow ans subject to some wild water...This is a 16mm film my dad got from a friend in the Power Squadron in NJ that was used as a safety lesson for boaters back when I was getting my boating license at 13 years old. Back then it was mandatory for youngsters to get a boating license... Anyway, enjoy...

What was the mistake they were making, coming in too slow? Is there a best approach in those conditions at that location or is that determined once you see it. Great clip.

Got to keep moving faster than the water in order to maintain steerage - if the rudder comes out of the water (or looses 'purchase') on the crest, you are at the mercy of the unforgiving wave. Notice in the 'sleigh ride' clip, it was a double ender and it was going almost as fast as the wave. He timed it perfectly so he just slid down the face as the wave broke under him. That wasn't luck, that was great seamanship.
