Birdsall Rod Holder Fender Cleat

I saw one of these this past weekend and it really intrigues me. I now use the aft cleat (the one on an angle), but this looks like it would almost perfectly place a stern fender on my 340 Sundancer. In the pic they have the fender tied way too high, to demonstrate the use I'm sure, but with the proper amount of line, I don't think it would bother the aft curtain snapping on. Has anyone used these? Does the aft curtain snap on with it installed? I'd only be using it on weekends while we're on the boat as our normal dock has an integral fender system.

My immediate thought is that if the fender is pushed up by an adjacent boat it could come out of the holder and be lost. I've had that happen with a different type of fender clip. My preference would be something that locks onto the boat in some manner.

I use a version from a different manufacturer, Nauti Cross.
4th season using them and I think they are great.

I made similar ones to the birdsall model out of 1" pvc and a T. Used them for a few years. This winter I added a pair of Taco Fender Locks to each side about 2' in front of the rear cleat. They work great and keep the fender from rolling off the back like it did when attached to the cleat. Plus once you set your fender line length, they just pop in and out in a few seconds. Probably one of the better off-season purchases I've made.
