Bird control at the pier

I think he also ran some sections of monofilament with pieces of 1/4" pvc pipe in certain areas around the dodger. This way when the birds tried to land on them, the pipe just rolled and the birds couldn't stand.

I don't think he cared about what looked tacky anymore, but what was effective. He's got a big boat and every weekend he went out to use it, it took him and his wife half a day just to clean the damn thing up to use it. He was fed up.

I'm going for the CDs next year. Below is a picture of the plastic owl I tried last year. You can see where he pooped on the canvas, bad owl!

These are CPVC bands, not electrical conduit bands like I previously stated. The one in the first picture should be pointing straight up.......but you get the idea. Home Depot DID NOT have them, probably any plumbing supply house would carry them.

I have a lot of similar looking plastic fittings on my camper top frame that are used to keep the plastics off of the tubular frame. These would work perfectly. Any canvas shop would have bushels of these.

A friend of mine has a strip of nautical flags (like grand opening flags at a store) and he strings them from bow to stern at his moring.

That worked except on his arch where they would sit so he got a spinning wind gauge that spins with the wind--other then the fly overs he has no poop on his boat.

Interesting thread that needs a revival. Anyone else come up with a brilliant idea to help keep the birds away? They're starting to really become a pain in the backside on our dock this summer. Several new nests and lots of poop everywhere.

Several years ago I bought a product called Bird-Off. It used stanchions similar to the ones in the pictures above, and monofilament line. You set the stanchions about every 3' around the bow rail and put the mono in the slits in the top of the stanchions. Each set covers 75' of bow rail. Keeps all those damn swallows off the bow rails.

I liked it so much I bought a dozen of them and sold them to guys at the club.

I have one left if anyone's interested. $25 and I'll pay the postage. If you're interested PM me and I'll give you my address to send a check to.

do you think the Owl is going to scare away the birds from the pier.

They don't scare off drunks either........... Sorry GFC I had to do it. :smt001
