Hoping some one can point me in right direction. I had to replace my original 3 wire pump which was a Rule Mate 1100. Worked great until impeller wore out and began slipping on motor shaft. Auto worked fine always. I replaced with a Attwood 3 wire auto pump with float activation from brown wire. My issue is when i directly wire the new pump to the brown wire coming from the battery, I am assuming , the auto does not work when i raise float. If I disconnect from the wiring as previous and take brown straight to battery it works. What am I missing?....Manual works fine. I have a sea ray 225 weekender that only has on/off on the peanut pad.......

When wired did the pump work with the manual switch?
You need a meter or a test lamp.
Check that the ground is good - BLACK
Check that one wire is 12+ at all times - BROWN/RED stripe
Check the other is controlled by the helm switch. - BROWN (original was via an external float switch see diagram)
If all above are good the issue is in the pump or how you are arranging the wires from the pump.

connections -
Pump ----------- Boat
black to black ground
brown to brown manual
brown/white to brown/red automatic

Your boat uses an EIM (Electronic Control Module) one fuse and relay there controls the manual bilge pump function.
Then wired to the float is another feed from the battery thru another 4A (fuse or circuit Breaker) this feed is hot all times.
Start at the battery switch, find the common terminal, find the 4A fuse/CB hopefully it is clearly marked.

Hello Tclark i am having a similar issue.
Installed a new rule mate 750 auto. seems like it only works when i put panel switch on for bilge.
It was installed by a boat mechanic not me.
Am I doing something wrong?
Im on a mooring, battery off, panel toggle switch off.
Bilge full of water!
Please help

Well, to start with, turn the bilge pump on!

If you're not comfortable with wiring, ask the mechanic who did it to check the install.

Otherwise, look at what Pat wrote - he wrote quite a lot of detailed info. The bilge pump is a simple system, getting power from two sources - the dash switch and direct from the battery. Did you check fuses (also noted by Pat).

Should I leave toggle switch in the on position, with battery on or off?

I'm not understanding what exactly you're asking. Are you talking about leaving the bilge pump on when you leave the boat?

Yes should i leave bilge pump toggle switch on panel in the on position, with the battery off? Ty

It won't work from the dash with the battery switch off. Leaving it on 24/7 would burn it out. You really shouldn't be getting all that much water into the bilge with the cover on, though.

But if you're leaving the boat in the water, you definitely want to get the auto function working. And, you should really have a 2nd, deep cycle battery for this.

Ty very much for your replys!
