Recently, I had a bulge pump failure at the 6 month mark on a new boat, fortunately replaced under warranty. The mechanic told me it isn't uncommon for them to handle 5 or more bilge pump replacements in a week. Granted, this Marine Max dealer is a high volume dealer/repair facility but if true, that sounded like like a very high number which makes me wonder if the average bilge pump needs frequent replacement.
As a group, do many of you keep a spare pump on hand? Is this something you'd recommend having on board (plus necessary tools) to be able to replace if you're out on the water?
I'm a new boater so I don't have any personal history to rely on. Thanks!

I have had a couple of failures in my life of boating
I don't carry a spare but do monitor their operation regularly
I never worry about failure due to redundancy...my 340 has 4 of the silly things.
and 2 different level water alarms.
