I bought my 2006 SR 270 SD in August and I’m trying to find where the switch is to operate the pump in the helm compartment. Should it run when i flip the bilge pump switch on the dash or is there another way? Thanks

Typically, the big pump should start automatically when there is water in the bilge. A bilge pump switch at the helm, is to override the float switch and force the pump to run.

1) runs when water is in the bilge OR the switch is flipped = good.
2) runs when water is present but not when switch is on = bad wiring to switch?
3) runs when switch is on but not when water is in the bilge = stuck or defective float switch.
4) doesn't run at all = could be a bad pump, wiring, fuse, etc.

Mine only runs when the float switch is lifted. And ONLY when battery switch is on. I feel like it should work even if battery switch is off. Also, my bilge switch on the dash only operates the transom bilge pump, not the forward one.

Ryan, that doesn't sound correct. Your FWD bilge pump shoudl have continuous power, regardless of the battery switch, through the float switch. That should be the only way it will run, meaning there would be no manual switch for it.

Take a look at your wiring diagram and see if this is correct - but I'm about 99% sure. If you don't have your owner's manual, you can download it from SR's site.

BUT... it may be that someone DID rewire it to perform the way you are saying it is. If that's the case (and I'm correct), they may have put the lead for the FWD pump on the wrong battery switch post. Make sure it's on the line side of the switch, not the load side.

Thanks for the info. It was a bad wiring issue,
