The bilge pump light at the helm has been on all season,(since I bought it in July). Depressing the switch does not turn it off.

Is this normal? Checked the engine compartment today, looked like more water in the bilge than I've seen before. Breakers are all normal, depressing the float switch> the pump ran briefly. We haven't had rain in weeks, although we dock stern out to the river.

Any input is much appreciated!

it is not normal. light is only ON when pump is running. it looks like pump is broken and possibly float switch too (but float switch could be ok because you stated that there is a water in bilge). very likely there is more than one bilge pump in engine room and when you depressing float switch you are activating different pump than the one with light on.

The Stereo light on the helm needs to be on for the Stereo to work. You should be able to switch it on or off.

You should have two bilge pumps on your 340DA and the light should only be on when at least one of them is running. If you manually turn on the switch (and it lights up) you need to be careful as to not run the bilge pump dry as it will break. I do not believe that the light should not be on permanently as it would indicate that at least one of your pumps is running.

I have the same boat as yours and I always have some very small amount of water in the bilge. I have initially traced it to a leaking drain plug (which has now been fixed). Used a shop vac to vacuum the water out and placed paper towels in the engine compartment and all was dry when docked (but it did not rain during this period). I don't like leaving the paper towels in the bilge when the engine is running but there still seems to be some very small amount of water coming from somewhere when underway. I now simply vacuum it out once a month.

I believe the only time your bilge pump light on the dash should be "on" is when you manually turn the pump on.

Maybe a float switch stuck on?
