Hello all,
Does anyone have a similar problem and if so, what can be done about it?

i have flaking paint in the bilge, it appears to be "peeling" off of the gelcoat. Not just in an isolated area, but all areas. I've read that the paint is peeling due to the "wax" in the gelcoat? Seems to me that SR screwed up with the compatibility of the paint and gelcoat.

Thanks for any input,
Bow Tie

My 07' 36 DB had the same issue alot of the paint was flaking off. Surveyor said its common.

With the price of these boats one would think that this is not commercially acceptable and Searay would have done something about their "mistake".

Thanks,

I have had it happen on nearly every Sea Ray I have owned, and it is happening on my 06 44. I would assume the only solution is to scrape any loose paint, and then repaint.

I called SR about this same problem. Seems it's not paint but gel coat. That was enough for me. I've done gel coat repairs before and with the flaking below the bilge water the idea of getting any good job is almost impossible. I'll have to wait for when i haul the boat and dry, clean, degease, prep, prep, prep. Oh by the way it's $80 a pint. good luck

I had just a few surface cracks in the gelcoat in the bilge of my 340, but my dockmate's 340 had large pieces missing like you described. I recall "Hampton" (on this site) detailed how he used bilgecoat paint to fix his 340 bilge gelcoat. You might search for his article.
