Was replacing one of the 4 bilge lights in the engine room of our 2003 390MY. One of the lights has not had a bulb in it since we purchased the boat last year. Installed a new LED 1156 single base bulb into the socket, the light did not come on. Being an LED bulb, and not familiar with using a multi-meter to check continuity with LED, I used the probes on the volt meter to check for DC power at the receptacle. Unfortunately, the Positive probe touched the negative sides of the bulb receptacle, had a spark, and the other bilge lights went out. Reset the 12V breaker switch on the salon electrical panel, turned the bilge lights switch to on (located on galley panel), the little orange light on the switch shows switch is "on" for bilge lights, but still no power to bilge light receptacles (all 4). Wiring schematics don't show any other fuses. The electrical harness for bilge lights also shows the cockpit lights are run on the same circuit. I am returning to the boat to try and trouble shoot why there is no power to bilge lights.(not sure if cockpit lights were effected) Any insight would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Not sure, never thought to check the GFI's in the heads (that is the only two GFI's, I am aware of). Will check them upon my return to boat tomorrow. thanks for that thought.

Checked the (previously) working incandescent bulbs, they showed continuity. When checking the bulb receptacle no power shows on multimeter. Will still pick up some new incandescent bulbs to check for sure. thanks. Heading to boat now. Will see what I find.

There should also be a breaker panel in the bilge I would check that as well.

Bilge lights out update: I checked to see if there is a bilge light breaker on main DC panel in engine room. Nothing visible on main board. Removed the bilge lights breaker in the DC panel in the salon. Continuity is fine. Swapped the breaker out with another that operates the forward lighting, the forward lighting works fine on the "bilge lights breaker", but still only 0.25V when testing the bilge lighting circuit with the other breaker. The 0.25V is the power that seems to be allowing the orange light in the switch to operate dimly (not as bright as usual). Removed Bilge lighting switch and connected the two wires from bottom of switch, no lights, only 0.25V 20220516_131019.jpg 20220516_154433.jpg 20220516_200349.jpg . I checked the continuity from the one wire of the switch back to the load side of the breaker, it is good. I have only 0.25V at the breaker from bus bar to load, but 12.8V across all other loads to bus bar. Photos attached. I am suspecting circuit is not completing itself to the neutral, but can't locate the end of the circuit.
Will try to figure out how to post also on electrical repairs. thanks to everyone for your advice.
