Bigger Tab without moving the actuator on a 2000 270 DA?

David,

It does take some getting used to larger Trim Tabs as your first experiences with coming on to plane with them points out. But I am sure that once you got used to them their use became second nature.

I know that our Auto Tab Retractor has been adapted to work when the shift is engaged to neutral, or reverse, but the shifter needs to have some sort of switch incorporated into it. We really do not have any information on that that I can give you, so it would be a "home-brewed" project on your part.

As you see by Melida's post his larger Trim tabs appear to be holding up well. While I can't put an "official endorsement" on a single actuator on a Trim tab with that much chord, as I said in a my previous post, the proof is in the results.

Interesting Tom, I have the automatic tab retratctor and it is invaluable in a dry storage environment. I've never considered that it could also be made to work when the boat is put into reverse - that would be great if someone had thoughts on how that might be accomplished.

Your response to the "without moving the actuator" part of the original question was "I would strongly suggest that the actuator be moved to the center of the 24" Trim tab and be mounted on the flat part of the transom. I know it's more work, but it is the best way to do it."

I would really like to do the identical upgrade but if I have to move the actuators it probably isn't going to happen anytime soon as there are other, more pressing boat projects. What would happen if actuator wasn't moved?

Phlorida,

Simply put, the Trim Tabs could very well end up bending.
