BIG Project Boat...Lots of pictures

We all like to find that diamond in the rough... sorry but this one looks 'rough' throughout.

Ha well im convinced ...I was reaal close to pulling the trigger, but now that I think about it unless the engine runs its a risky investment. I was thinking about a whaler, but I really wanted an all around boat that wasnt too big like the Sea Ray. Well I guess ill keep on the look out or settle for the whaler for this year.

Even the duct tape used to hold the engine cover appears to have rotted away. Away, that's the right word, as in 'run away' from this mess.

As I stated before, I got my MINT condition 1989 160BR with the 3.0L I/O (Unlike most boats this engine goes in... it is actually enough power for the little 16'9" vessel) for about $4000 w/ trailer and tax. Look around, you can find something in great shape for $3000-$4000, and in the long run you'll come out ahead.

Holy Crap! I think it would be a life long project. See if she'll give you a few hundred to haul it away to a junkyard!:smt043

It would cost that much just to get the trailer in shape to haul it.

With gas prices and the economy in the shape it is, you should be able to come across a better boat with a better deal. Take the $800 you were going to drop on that boat, and look at Ebay or Craig's List. There are some really good project boats that run great but were alittle neglected. Craigs list is another good one, too.

Plus, I can verify that there is a distinct difference between a dollar and a boat dollar. If someone tells you $1000 to fix the boat, plan on spending $2000

those engines were trouble straight from the factory
I have been to the factory school on them
they were blowing up when they were brand new
they were an inline four cylinder designed to drop down to two cylinders below 1000rpm
they dropped two cylinders fine they just never wanted to light them back up

junk

If you have the time, the skills, the wallet and a lot of spare time Perhaps 300-400 hours of week ends, you can restore this boat.

The price is so high, parts and time for a DIY effort it makes the boat and trailer valuless and without being silly. The owner should be satisfied with the removal of the rig from her property as consideration. Make the new title and registration based upon $10.00 in value for the boat, $20 for the trailer. To pay sales tax and tags.

I'd approach this project very carefully as you will never get your cost of parts and time back upon resale.

Have you considered just buying a good boat?
