Beware-Vessel Renewal Notice

On Monday, I received in the mail a very official looking letter from Vessel Documentation Portal informing me that USCG Documentation is SET TO EXPIRE.

It further goes on to read that Certificates will now be issued for 5 years. The letter provides multiple ways to access their renewal form and the fee is $375.

If you go directly to the USCG site, you can renew annually for $26. I renewed going the annual route with the USCG.

Just raising awareness to all that letters are going out to elicit fear and quick responses for vessel renewal for fees way more than what is being charged by the Coast Guard.

Another documentation tip: If you misplace your COD, a replacement certificate is like $50+ . Just renew your certificate for $26 and it resets the annual clock. You’re only out what’s left of the previous annual certificate on a pro rated basis.

Internet domain hounds do the same thing taking info from public registries unless you pay for private. Just ignore em.

Thank you. I was a new boater and got that BS. It took till the next year to get smarter. The same group sent me a letter, notice about my Corporate paperwork for the Feds and Commonwealth. Wanted to charge me twice the real cost.

Yes, I renewed a little too early one year and I lost 5 months & got a new renewal date...

None above the bridge, it really is too fresh. It’s not really polluted, it’s so dam shallow it don’t take much to stir up the silt. 12’ is deep water.
