Best way to start 5.0 EFI Mercruiser 2001 year

I am new to this engine. What is the recommended starting procedure?

open the engine hatch and :
LOOK for anything amiss
SMELL with your nose for gas fumes, then start the blower motor and smell that exaust for gas fumes
CHECK the oil level, belts, belt tension,bilge ,
START engine check for any leakage, funny noises,etc.
CHECK the gauges for the correct readings.
close hatch and enjoy the day.

I generally open the engine hatch, sniff for fumes and if all is ok, turn on the blower. Then check the fluids. There should be a placard on your panel regarding the operstion of the blower. I then close the hatch and wait for the buzzer to stop which should coincide with the fuel pump priming the system. Your 5.0 has the same fuel injection system as my 5.7. So if all is in proper working order, you should be able to tun the key with the engine firing off shortly thereafter.
