I’ve been trying to sell my 240 Sundancer. I have it listed on Facebook marketplace but only got a couple responses. I think I’m in the right price range. Are there better places to list it for sale? It sure would be nice to have it out of my garage before winter.

Not that I promote FBM, but in these parts most of the boats that are listed are turned over in a couple weeks if they are not overpriced, in which case they are there nearly in perpetuity. There was one listed for 18500, and explained to the guy why it was not worth more than my max offer of 14000. He perceived me to be a CSOB at the time and after way to much BS, I walked. Over the next few weeks he kept lowering price and last I saw, was down to around 15. He should have taken my offer, but I'm glad he did not. Coincidentally, the one I later bought (after I'd given up the hunt) showed up on FBM and was brought to my attention by the admiral who I guess, had not given up. I looked at, and bought it the day after it was listed for 22. As far as I know that other one was still not sold after 4 months.

I guess it depends on where you are. I will note that you aren't the only one with the garage consideration up there, so maybe a good sell-able price in the spring time is perhaps a little high in the fall?

Sorry, for all the rambling without providing the definitive answer to your question. I reckon, I don't know either. Seems to work well enough down here, but then again, that was earlier in the year.

I've sold cars/boats/bikes through Craigslist and FBM but I will also typically list them in auto/cycle/boat trader sites. I'd say that the sales have come from all 3 sources. If you're a serious buyer you're scoping the trader ads at minimum. A lot of older folks won't look at CL or FB. If it isn't selling then sometimes it requires patience and sometimes I've had to get more realistic about my price.

Sifting through the BS from FBM and CL isn't that tough. If someone responds to the ad without anything that hints they know what they're buying I simply ignore it. Never respond to the 'is it available' requests. Just keep in mind that you're not the only person suspicious in the deal. The buyers are just as worried about you so once you find an interested party ask them if they'd like any specific pictures. I do this when buying to ensure that the person actually has the vehicle.

I did face book and boat trader. Both generally sucked. Lots of bs buyers.

I actually had a guy come and look at it and make a reasonable offer. My wife said no. Moral of the story. Never listen to the wife.
If you know better what is reasonable, then perhaps the alternative moral
of the story is that the wife really doesn't want to sell the boat.

On the brighter side, whether you wanted to or not, ending up with an overfull garage is now HER fault. ;)

You’re right. She doesn’t want to sell it. And the reason why is sentimental value. She remembers all the good times we had on it when the kids were growing up. Well it’s time to let go and free up some garage space!

No No. nothing is ever “her” fault!

How much space do you free up if you let her go? :)

I sold our 2003 420DA on Boat Trader in about 6 weeks. Some BS scammers, but easy to tell the serious buyers. Had 4-serious buyers….one could not get his money fast enough, one finally admitted the boat was too big for him to handle, #3 had more money than brains, and #4 flew up from FL 3 times. Came to see it, returned for the survey, and the last time to load it for transport. He sent me pics from the Bahamas over 7/4.
