Best marine hose (wash down/drinkin)

We do what some of the others do. That is we drain and fill our water tank every week when the boat is washed. It is washed with our garden hose and runs for quite a long time during the wash routine. Once the boat is rinsed, that garden hose is used to fill the tank. Our water source is good as well. It is city water that is chlorinated and goes into a clean tank that is disinfected at the start of the season. We disinfect our tank when we return from summer cruising knowing that we occasionally are drinking well water from some towns we visit along the way. I figure the tank water is cleaner all the way around than using water for drinking, cooking and bathing that comes into the boat after sitting in a hot hose on the dock, no matter what color the hose is. The primary concern with hose water as I understand it is lead. Lead is apparently an ingredient in many rubber hoses. As others have said, a well flushed hose that is not used for unsanitary purposes (such as flushing a black water tank) is probably very safe for filling a potable water tank.

I've been using potable water for over 20yrs now without any issues. The season is started with a disinfection routine like mentioned by others with another one mid summer. My biggest issue with hoses is the taste in coffee, hot chocolate, and most importantly ice. I like lots of ice in my drinks and continually use it and the water from the tank (which means it often has to be filled with fresh chlorinated water from a well flushed "garden variety" green hose). It takes some tank monitoring not to run out especially with showers on the boat, but not usually that big a deal.

Jimmy, as I mentioned above in the novel I wrote about disinfecting my tanks, I use a separate filter on the water hose to remove the bad taste before the water goes into my tank. I picked it up at Walmart for about $20. This one below is a Culligan and it's similar to the one I have, except mine has a hose fitting on both sides, not a pipe fitting, and I think mine is a bit taller than this one. The filter for mine is hard, feels like some kind of stone (but it's not) and the filters last a year then I get a new one.

If you use one of these you probably will get rid of that bad taste.
