I was wondering what grill everyone leans towards? I had a Magma many years ago (not sure what model) but didn't really like it that much. I seem to remember it would burn food very easily. Not sure if just that model or if new ones are better. Any suggestions?? I would like one to mount with a pedestal on the swim platform, as well as a larger size one. I have recently run across Blaze brand online but pricy

I know magma gets some hate but I’ve now had two and very happy with them. This year we bought the big one, it’s called the Monterey II infared. Huge cooking surface, the ‘infared’ part is just a metal screen but that helps with flare ups, gets very hot and cooks well.

I also use a cast iron griddle for certain foods that are prone to stick and that works great. We keep it in the lazarette and I use the pole mount. My only complaint is it absolutely rips through the 1lb propane canisters so I’m going to do a 5lb or invest in the refillable 1lb’s next year

I have worn out 2-Magmas and will not own another one. Currently have a Weber Q1200 and love the grill. Just have to build a small table to mount on the transom locker handle. I know what to do, just haven’t done it yet. Very even temp across the grill surface and does not flare up like the Magmas did. I did not have the same success with the Monterey II that Strecker25 had. The Weber fits in the transom locker and just love it compared to the Magmas.

4 years on a Magma and I couldnt be happier. I think I have the Catalina but dont recall for sure.

I use it in windy conditions and frequently cook at low temps for things like brats and chicken. Zero issues with burning.

Easily fits in a dock box or in the trunk of my 400. I usually use it table top but have a rod holder mount for it as well.

Would buy another tomorrow if something happened to this one.

Did the Magma, now doing the Webber BABY Q

Bolted to a black STARBOARD base

Starboard has a gimbal mount underneath

The BABY Q ROCKS !

The best grill in my opinion is the Traeger Ranger. It does everything and no more gas to mess with. Just plug it in.

By accident the gas valve from my Magma was destroyed (run over by the car), It ran hot and scorched the food. Got a replacement valve from West Marine and could not be happier now. Can control the flow and cook evenly.

For Weber and Traeger guys; where do you stow it?
We got a Nexgrill but never took it to the boat as it is too big to fit in the flybridge stair locker.
Agree with magnas getting way too hot even on the lowest setting, hate ours. Maybe their regulators are a blind luck thing as mine has no markings for temp range, it just burns everything on the outside before the inside even starts to cook.

Larry look for the blue replacement ones at West Marine, they come in different flow levels. Mine works great now.

+1 for the electric grills. I added a Kenyon years ago and we use it all of the time. Could not live on the boat without it. The only draw back with electric is I wouldn't grill a thick rib eye on it, but everything else comes out great.

Since the subject of electric came up........

Does anyone use a Ninja Pro Grill and Griddle.

I use one at home and it's going to make me sell my propane grill it cooks so good.

The Traeger is big and heavy. I store it on the flybridge under the table with the Traeger cover.

...

I stow mine under the port side forward facing seat on my 340SDA where a cooler was designed to go. It's a slight bit too big for the door but fits well inside. I replaced the weber cotter pins on the cover hinge with marine pull pins so that I can take the top off easily and put in on the grill separately.

We stow the Webber BABY Q in the lazarette.

Even with the starboard base, and the folded gimbal mount, it fits nicely on it's side.

The 450 DA only has one rod holder, and it's not in the most convenient spot.

Although it's way down the list, we'll be adding some type of pedestal mount in the future.

Grill tools can then be hung from the STARBOARD base.

BEST !
