Tried searching "wax" and no results, which I thought was weird as I'm sure this topics has been discussed many times.....

I'll be putting my baby away for the winter in the next few weeks and planned on waxing it after she is out of the water.

I planned on using a cleaner first, then waxing - what's your recommendations on cleaner and wax?

Thanks!

I use Buff Magic and Pro Polish, and have been doing so for years. Do you think waxing in the Fall absolves you from waxing in the Spring?

I have used Collinite ' 925 with great sucess on my 93 270 weekender.

This stuff works great when you want to maintain gloss between washes. Kinda pricy but it really does clean and shine. It keeps the staining at bay so I don't have to acid clean then re wax.

Everyone has their favorite and there are a ton of good ones out there - the "what wax?" question get's as many responses as the "what oil?" question.

Personally I like:

Heavy Cleaning / buffing: Buff Magic
Light Cleaning / buffing: Star-Brite Cleaner Wax with PTEF
Wax: Star-Brite Premium Polish with PTEF or Mequiars Flagship
Spray Wax for small touchups: Serious Shine

I like Meguires Flagship cleaner wax, followed by a light coat of collinite 925. Spring and Fall, with a mid-season round if I can fit it in time wise. Flagship really deepens the green on my hull. Also have been told that Collinite 925 and Collinite 845 are the same formulation... just marketed for boat vs car. Guess which one is less expensive.

Agreed, everyone has their preference. I like the idea of one and done that 3M Restore and Wax provides. Read nothing but great reviews on it so I'm going to give it a try.

Do you also use that on your non-skid?

Pick a cleaner wax (me Mequires). Then a polish (Starbrite PTEF). Then Collinite 925 wax

I use the Mequires on the nonSkid, Put in on with a rag and use a bristle brush to buff it out of the skid. Not a fan of Wood Waxy (don't like the residue). Can use a rotary buffer to clean it out too. It's not hard at all. Easy to keep the crud out of the diamod cut non skid.

my understanding is that the PTEF is a polish, and not a protectant. that's why you polish first and wax second. Open to understand

Ahhhh fall! These were the threads that had me completely confused when I first got my boat. Just my $0.02. If your hull doesn't shine when you wash it, no wax is going to help. You'll need to do some pre work with something that has a bit of grit to it and follow that up with something that has a lot less grit which then will make your shine. Then you can use any of the above waxes to protect that which may have to be reapplied.
You may be lucky to have less oxidation and can start with a less gritty polish or cleaner wax

I'm a big fan of Meguires Flagship cleaner wax. I keep my boat on a covered lift during the summer and have it covered over the winter, so I only wax once per year in the fall.

Try so many over the years but the best and easyest is

Light Cleaning / buffing: Star-Brite Cleaner Wax with PTEF
Wax: Star-Brite Premium Polish with PTEF
