Below Zero Forcast For Next Week

Gonna be mighty chilly over our way too for the next several days. Thank God for the pellet stove I installed in '07, it really makes a difference. In fact, if my hands don't freeze to the wheel I may go have to score another ton of fuel this weekend. I'd much rather be burning a renewable resource and keep several forestry folks employed that using up the essentially irreplaceable "dinosaur wine" that the 7.4 in the 260 loves to drink.

Speaking of drinking sferguson727, when it's this cold beer doesn't cut it. Old Bushmill's for me, please.........(hic!)

Cheers,

Bill

I'll probably drain the block this afternoon. My biggest worry is a power outage. I do have a remote thermostat in the bilge so I can monitor it from the house but would feel awfull bad should I wake & find it frozen :wow:

Buddy of mine got his first boat, a 20 foot early 90's open bow Sea Ray, in the winter. He purchased the kit from WM to winterize it himself.

On it's maiden voyage in the spring I trailed the boat for him to a local lake.

Him, myself and another buddy took the day off and we had plans for a fun day on the lake.

She fired up fine. We idled out for 15-20 minutes and then opened her up. She would not get on plane and was plowing. We tried different things for a few minutes, same result. I then noticed water coming from the floor board by the engine compartment, lots of it. In a matter of minutes it was at my feet at the helm.

Yes, we were taking on water and sinking and the bilge pump could not keep up.

I opened the engine cover, looked in, water was blowing everywhere. Shut off the engine, it stopped.

We limped backed in, he had it checked out by the mechanic, turns out one of the water elbows that carries water out of the manifold was cracked. Mechanic said it was not winterized properly and froze. Needless to say my buddy is not mechanically inclined and really did not winterize the boat properly.

Probably one of the scariest moments in my boating/water life as we were sinking, middle of the lake, nowhere to go.

I just ordered a Power House P750-25 Ice Eater for our pier since the back creek here is starting to ice over and it's going to just get colder till late next week. Had new pier put in this past year and hate to have it damaged in the first winter. Good thing the boat is winterized and up on the lift. Come on mid-March looking forward to being back on the water and after the spring rockfish running up the bay.

Lol....I'm going out right now to pull 2 of the plugs but the 3rd one will have to wait till Kim gets home. Never have been able to reach it.

Thats the exact reason I married a very petite woman. They come in handy.

Nice touch:grin:
oh yeah, freaking cold here today as well. lows -2 or so. Way too damn cold and I'm hoping not to have any fires tonight. Been there done that..:smt101

As Meatloaf told us, 2 out of 3 ain't bad

Actually got all three by myself this time  Somebody would make a killing if they could figure out a way to make a hatch of some sort where you could just pull out the transom or something so you could actually do some work in the dam bilge. Getting in there reminded me I've still got a fresh water line leak that will have to be fixed in the spring & I'm not sure how that's going to happen :smt017

Actually she's a tall blonde.......long legs & arms & stuff

Single diget forcast for sat., remains to be seen, if so it'll be the lowest since 03. Boat is on trailer under cover, fully winterized, with heater in bilge. Nicky

Good luck guys!! We had a severe freeze in the Northwest in Dec. Despite a heater in the bilge I lost my fresh water filter ( it cracked), and the transom shower head. The transom freshwater supply fitting froze but I was able to repair it. All in all I got off easy. Keep in mind we leave our boat in the water year around. Low to mid 50's this weekend so it looks like a boating weekend.

What do I win?

I'm pretty sure there is no prize for 15.5 mpg:smt043:smt043:smt043

Holy crap that is cold, -27 are you kidding me?

We had a wind chill warning the entire day (-20 in the am with a 10-15 mph "breeze"). It was a good day for making snotcicles....say no more.

already -14 here going to at least -20, last night made it to -19. I hate when it goes to these temps (anything less than +10 )

all I remember from those days was anything past -10 didn't make much different....

oh yeah..and how prickly my nose hairs felt at the school bus stop....

Wednesday night it was -18.7. The grand kids snowman in the front yard, has a sign saying "I welcome global warming".

Woof!! going down to 4 tonight. My koi Pond Froze up to where I had to add water to keep the fish from freezing solid. Had to warm up a hose in a bathtub so I could get water from the faucet to the pond.

Good news is, I went to the boat today to check bilge temps. A nice dry 51 degrees. The new Boatsafe seems to be working perfectly. Both engines and Genny started easily for their bi weekly spin up.
