Hello. I have a 2007 270 Amberjack with an 8.1 and Bravo III. I'm the second owner and was told by the dealer that the drive was replaced in 2008. Anyway, I was out checking my bellows and I located what I believe to be the u-joint bellow and shift cable bellow but the exhaust bellow didn't look like what I thought I should be looking for. I thought I should be looking for a ribbed rubber piece and all I saw was a smooth shaped piece that when the drive is full down looks like it seats right in there. Am I looking at the right thing and is this something new? Also, does anyone think they replaced the bellows when they replaced the drive? I don't have any problems just want to make sure I head them off before I end up with a problem. Thanks for any feedback.

That style of exhaust bellows (sometimes referred to as the "cup" style) has been around for some time and is a normal thing to have. The only difference that you may notice is a louder exhaust note when the drive is trimmed part way up (primarily when on land, of course).

Don't worry - you're good.

your looking at the exhaust. it works just like you thought.

i doubt they would replace the bellows on that new of a boat unless they were into the transom or bell housing. they wouldn't have had to if all they did was change the drive

Thanks for the replies guys. Does this style bellow need the sort of attention as the others?

That cuff need nothing.
It will if anything have better performance.

About this exhaust bellow, the bellow often came off on one side, the drive side. Getting it back on was difficult and even when successful it often just pulled off again.

Finally they came up with a exhaust bellow that does not attach to the outdrive. This bellow gets sandwiched in as the drive goes down when you lower the trim.

Actually it's nothing more than an oval shaped rigid plastic piece that mates to the male portion on the other half of the drive. Not a tight fit, at least on my boat it wasn't. If you don't care for the louder exhaust note just remove the plastic piece and install a new exhaust bellows. Using bellows adhesive takes care of the slipping off nuisance.

From a mechanic point of view on flat rate I love those bellows so easy to install and they work great don't worry about you will be fine. All the new boats have this style now and every mechanic asks for them because they are so reliable and easy to install.
