Belleair Beach to Baltimore a 30 day adventure

Day 7 We spent the night at Isle of Hope marina which is outside of Savannah. They have loaner cars and bikes and they say its the last fuel stop south for 90 miles.. We left the marina at 9AM, passed by Hilton head, circumvented some storms and arrived at Charleston at 4PM. The scenery in South Carolina is different than Georgia, more winding rivers that are connected by cuts. Again, it was very desolate, but we did run with a 42 Silverton for a few hours- he could actually go 30 mph. The cruise is very easy, but you certainly need to carry some fuel. We passed a neat little town, Beaufort SC, that looked to be a nice stopover. We are staying at the Charleston City marina on the MegaDock. Its a very busy marina with all services available and a shuttle to downtown. The mechanic should arrive first thing in the morning, and depending on how long it takes, it will determine how far we go tomorrow. Myrtle Beach was anticipated, but now unlikely. Did I mention my Buddy likes boating? I can't believe we have been gone a week-I could get used to this.

You're making this look too easy.

Looks like you guys are having a great trip. Can't wait to see you when you get here. God speed.
Terry and Ken.

Looks to be a great trip. I'm enjoying following your trip.

There is a line of SEVERE thunder storms heading east and should be at the coast Thursday (tomorrow) mid day. Be safe....

I am loving watching and learning, thanks for sharing with us. This trip is definately on my "Bucket List!"
That 90 mile stretch with no fuel stops would have a pucker factor with our gas tank size...lol

Funny.... I did this trip last year up to New York and its interesting that all of your stop overs are different than mine up until Charleston. I think it's great because it shows that you could do this trip a dozen times probably and have a different itinerary each time. I'm so jealous because I never wanted it to end!

BTW waterwayguide.com posts the fuel prices for various marinas in each state and it can vary quite a bit so you may want to check that out. Enjoy...

I was thinking the same thing looking at his pics. "hey I didn't remember seeing that" or "Damn, I should stop there next time"

:huh:Enjoying the pics and watching the progress. Showed the other docs how to follow as well. From the partner who stayed behind to watch the business.

Day 8 The mechanic arrived late but it made no difference- the winds started at 20 knots and are now up to 30 knots and will continue through tomorrow.. When the sail boats are coming into port, this boy is staying in. The mechanic from Superior Diesel in Charleston had the coolant resevoir bracket replaced in less than 45 minutes. What do you know - a new design for the bracket-that wouldn't be a design flaw would it? He said that if the starboard side cracked, it would be a bit harder to replace, but he can do it without removing the floor. Do I remember somone saying it cost 5k to do this job? Bring your boat down here and let these guys do it. This evening we will be watching baseball and hockey and hanging out at the marina. To clarify myself on that stretch with no fuel-it's 90 miles on the ICW with no fuel, but you can get off and run inland to find some, but well out of your way. If you range is limited, do the homework and look for a source. Since we are losing 2 days due to the weather, we may change plans and not do the C&D canal , Chesapeake City and Ocean City.We may just turn around and backtrack in the bay after the Rays beat the Orioles. I want to see 7 or 8 ports on the bay. There are swells in the marina- should be great sleeping tonight. Thanks COD for the waterwayguide.com info. Some marinas have fuel 40 cents cheaper than others.

The pics look great except for the ones where you're drinking the Bud Light Lime. They were meant for the best looking, smartest, most talented doc over the May 6th weekend! Stay safe.

Loving the trip details so far. This thread is like crack it's my daily read and view for pictures. Some of us still have to work! I think your plan of doing a U turn in the bay is a good idea. Better use of time and fuel. If you are looking for ideas on stops there are many of us on the bay that can offer choices with first hand experience!! Take care you look pretty exposed there on that dock. Double up on lines throw out an extra fender or two and sleep well.

Take Care.

Great post and pictures. Made the trip from Miami Beach to Deltaville, VA on the Rappanahock at the mouth of the Bay April 2008 to bring Gimme Time up here. Didn't know how to post pics then and still don't but love seeing your pics and read. Enjoy the trip as it is a great one we hope to do again. Lots of great places along the Bay to make stops so enjoy the bay while you're here as there aren't many boating places with as much land and water to explore.

Thanks for keeping us all out there in the loop.
