Beam Vac randomly starts/stops

I think I'm going to try something like this where I can mount the switch and make it look like it was there from the start. Plus I don't want another friggin remote floating around the boat to keep track of!

I'd love to find a wall switch with the remote part on a 6" pigtail...may just have to rig it that way.

Like this. Now to see if I can actually find, then order the right things.

I just did this job on our vacuum. There are two tiny little pins inside the female hose receptacle that make contact with the metal collar on the vacuum hose when you plug it into the receptacle. These contacts complete a circuit that turns the vacuum on. The little pins (positive and negative) have tiny springs loaded behind them that keeps pressure on that hose collar when it’s inserted. If the pins jam or springs weaken no contact is made on the collar. We bought the wall assembly for about $ 25.00 when we realized our springs/pins were shot. No more problems at all.

How did you extract the unit from the boat? Its under the steps in my boat.

The factory buries the fasteners for the steps in the nap of the carpet.

When re-doing the flooring I set up the steps with all decorative stainless fasteners exposed, making the removal of the step assembly down the road very easy.

The stick vac is great for a quick pick up, but the BEAM has far more suction.

With the carpet gone it's a best bet for a deep clean.

BEST !

Noticed last year the Beam vacuum would occasionally/randomly start/stop almost instantaneously, for about 1/2 a second. Annoying as hell. I don’t think it’s the contact switch at the hose inlet. Any ideas before I dig into it. Cant unplug it with out removing it, plug is buried behind it.
Mine had two loose broken points on the circuit board for the 24 volt relay. the cause was stress on a square board mounted in a circular canister. Soldering those two points fixed the random starts. Similar boards are available through Evacuum but you may need to drill a new hole for modified mounting pattern.
