bc/bs obamacare shock hits

Well we recieved our new rates for health insurance today at work.My 42.00 a week blue cross blue shield of michigan jumped to 164.00 per week,an increase of 6000.00 per year for a single person.I am sure your all going to get the same news soon.This wouldnt tick me off but my boss decided not to tell us they didnt pay the premium so our insurance is on hold and wont pay for perscriptions or dr appointments.My sleeping pills will run out in two days and i think he owes me a refill seeeing as he still took the money from us to pay for insurance.Anybody else getting this crap?

56 OLDS--Your boss didn't tell you about your insurance increase not allowing you to have medical insurance. Sounds like you need a new boss or new job.

Yep, mines up too a good bit. We are on my Wife's policy and she works for a huge company so I think we were fairly well protected- for now anyway. I honestly don't know what I would do in your situation. That is terriable.

The good part (definitely a stretch) is that people are seeing the changes now and not after he is re-elected.

Mine's gone up too, but the union I belong to shielded the cost increase for now, but it won't always be so. obama is so full of crap, I hope he is booted out in 2012, followed by a complete overturn of idiotcare.....I mean obamacare.

He didnty pay because his family plan went from 1100 per mo to 2700 per mo. also .they thought at first it was a mistake and bcbs was looking into it .Supposedly they gave no warning just sent a bill with the new rates.but that was almost a month ago.

Please explain this allegation. Yes, there are isolated, highly publicized instances of health insurance companies doing wrong but not often considering the millions insured. Health insurance is a contract between the provider of services and one who needs services. Insurance companies only screw you if you if they do not honor their contract with you to cover medical expenses.

To the OP, It sounds good to have the government require insurance companies to cover all kinds of things but it hurts when the bill comes due. We must get this overturned and reform with market reforms.

Totally agree! REPEAL OBAMACARE and then FIX MEDICAID, the system that is already in place to handle people with no Health Insurance.

It's not rocket science. You can't force insurance companies to take on high risk without expecting them to raise their rates. Yes, I know we are talking about people. This is all part of the plan to run private insurance out of the medical care business. Then the left will have what they have always wanted- single payer government owned healthcare.

And it will suck!

I don't know the answer to that for certain, but if I had to guess, I would say yes. But that doesn't mean that my employer will go along with it. I suspect that in our next contract negotiations, health care insurance will be a major topic.

I believe you are right. Ours is up in 2013.

Your insurance company knows something you may not realize. Insuring 50 million new subscribers is going to be costly to them. You are stuffing their coffers for those expected expenses. Everyone is going to pay to insure the previously uninsured. If Obamacare is repealed, there will be no refund. Premiums will come down and the insurance companies will be boasting about their lower rates.
