Ok so I saw this on one of my favorite daily sites:

http://gizmodo.com/394024/bbq-baja-is-barbeque-in-a-box

Seemed kinda cool and then I got to thinking.

Say I have a little grill like that and charcol or this bbq in a box deal, and after I'm done and say the coals have cooled.

I am guessing you just can't leave it on a beach? I mean it's not like it's TRASH TRASH the wind/rain/sea would get rid of it? Can you just dig a hole in the sand and cover them up?

I know first thing someone will say is get a Magma Gass grill for the boat.

I plan to, I was just curious about being on a beach, charcoal smells/tastes so much better then gas

Never have taken a gas grill on the boat, never will. We always carry a Weber Smokey Joe on board, carry it up to the beach, cook and eat. When the coals are gone, I kick a hole in the sand and bury them. I always put a stick in the ground where they are buried, just in case someone with a heavy foot happens to walk in that spot. When on a busy beach, I try to bury the coals away from heavily used areas. The coals are nothing more than ash by the time we are done cooking anyway. Have been doing this for all 15 years we have owned a boat. Charcoal is the only way to go. No Magma for me, ever.

So then for you this sounds like a pefect little gimmic.

It could be. It is a clever idea. I keep a small sealed container of charcoal on the boat, and bring the chimney with us every time we go out, it works well for us. I guess not too many here are fans of charcoal grills while on the beach. It probably depends if you actually have a place/beach to cook on. We have several prime areas to choose from, so it is easy for us.

Grilling is not grilling if you're not using charcoal. Nice to see that there are others out there.

Hey - Thats does look like a good idea. Could you dig a hole in the sand and skip the BBQ? I'm thinking about us smaller boaters with less space. Maybe just carry a metal grate for a cook top.

That might work, as long as the grate was not too close to the hot coals. Heck, if your ever in Muskegon on your boat, come over and use our grill, usually always fired up, whether at the marina or on the beach.

I might do that. I just put my boat at Barretts in Grand Haven (the in and out service) and Muskegon seems like a nice trip. I have only been there once.

Where do you beach? Are there places in Mushegon to tie up to to get some ice cream or refreshments?

There are a couple of places you can go. Harbortowne has a restaurant you can tie up at, on Bear Lake channel, there is the Bear Lake Tavern with good food and beverages and dock to tie too. Great Lakes Marina will let you tie up for an hour or two, and there are a couple of good bars and an ice cream shop within a short walk. At the east end of Muskegon lake, Terrace Point marina has a restaurant and docks. Also, you can just anchor in side the channel arms and walk a few hundred feet to Captain Jacks which is right on the beach. We spend most of our time at the Muskegon State Park north of the channel, on the beach.

If you really want to have fun, come for the Summer Celebration. Lot's of good concerts this year, that you can see from the water. We will be taking vacation the whole week and be there. http://www.summercelebration.com/

Our marina is a few hundred yards from the grounds, and they always have transient slips available, and of course, we have 3 or 4 charcoal grills near our slip we are always cooking something when not out on the boat. Hope to see ya.

We always leave nothing but our footprints on the beach. Don't leave anything that can be harmful to the inhabitants of the beach, which in our case there are sea gulls, lamas, zebras and other critters. They raise them on St Catherines Island and some have crossed over to Ossabaw Island. You would not believe the things people will leave behind on the beach.
