What are everyone's plans for this once in a lifetime event. Marinas have been booked since memorial day so our plan is to swing on the hook with two other boats Sunday night, North of Kelley's (weather dependent, could change anchorage to accommodate for wind) and make our way to the battle site early Monday. If anyone is interested in joining PM me for contact info.

This should be an impressive site to see with all of the tallships together...

i may make it to put in bay just to see the ships but the wife and i don't really like to raft off other boats. we will be at the sandusky bay sand bar hosting a bit of a party with fellow boaters and jet skiers so all are welcome to attend, events start around 1pm on monday

Our club (Powell Gyro) filled 2 boats to watch the battle re-enactment. There are 18 of us staying in the area & enjoying the weekend's activities.
I think it will be interesting to see how they manage the 1000+ observer boats that will be going to the Battle site.
I know a lot depends on the winds; they have something like 9 different battle plans, depending on direction & velocity.
Then they will be enforcing the 500 yard "safe zone" between the tall ships & the rest of us...

BTW, If anyone is staying on PIB Monday night, they should have no problem getting a slip or a room that night.

I think we are probably just going to head out to watch the battle reenactment on Monday....that's assuming good weather of course. Jason if Aftica doesn't get fixed you are welcome to join us.

Hello All,

I'm a bit of a history fan. Especially US history. I would love to be there. However, getting there from Lake Michigan is a bit of a stretch. Please take some pictures and post them for me.

Thanks in Advance,

Gary

We should have plenty of photos, between the wife & I, and one of our club members is an award-winning amateur photographer.

Will definitely post plenty of pics

what number are you that are going we are in the 700 range with our enactment burgee and pass to see it.

We are spending the weekend at CIC where my family will be taking a ride on tall ship Hindu and then we plan to go to the battle site on Monday. I have to say I am a bit nervous about dealing with the 1000 boats out there...

The last few weekends on the island have been packed, and the PIB dockmaster said they are expecting 600+ boats in the harbor this weekend. I think the Jet is even running a special cruise to the site, and the Chamber of Commerce folks in Port Clinton are estimating 150K people for all 3 days of the holiday weekend staying in and around town. They even have a contingency for low water pressure! I plan on going out early, but the number (and behavior) of the spectator fleet will determine how long I stick around, even with a pass. Seems like a pretty big area to police and station keeping could get real interesting. Everyone stay safe out there!

I took my boat out to PIB yesterday and left it on "B" Dock :wow: We will be going back to it on Thursday morning. The dockmaster said he already has 28 boats on B dock that will be there through Labor Day.

Here is a crappy cell photo of one of the tall shipssailing out of the harbor.

Does anyone know of any TV coverage. I have a burgee. Number in the low 200's. Sounds like a real cluster. Going to study this before jumping in.

I'm considering my $95 as a donation. It's going to be a total cluster but we'll see. As I understand it the only "preferred viewing is being able to anchor or float West of Middle bass while the fleet sails by to go to the battle site. Once at the battle the only thing that will be enforced is a 500 yard exclusion zone, that NOBODY including us with burgees will be allowed in.

A little bit of false advertisement in my opinion but whatever. it will be cool none the less.

My plan, weather dependent, is overnight north of Kelleys Sunday, motor between N bass and M Bass around 10:00am Monday to see if it is worth trying to see from the "preferred area" and then head out towards the battle site for lunch and the reenactment.

I'm just praying people will be courteous and not act like fools. CG and local police are going to have a BUSY weekend.

I have not heard of any TV coverage. We plan to go out and anchor around Rattlesnake island about 2:00 PM and watch the parade of tall ships come back to Put in Bay.

I agree it's going to be a cluster. just having some sort of map on the website would be helpful. I have absolutely no idea where I'm going, where I'm supposed to be (or not be for that mater), and I'm not even a newbie to the area. based off everything I'm hearing maybe I better plan on taking out the 15' and see If I can't avoid some stress.

I pick up my Packet on Friday. I'll post coordinates and a picture of the map.

They really are trying to bill this as a "paid event". Check out the Battle of lake Erie bicentennial for more info, and also peoples Opinions. I really thingk they took the wrong approach...https://www.facebook.com/batlleoflakeerie
