Battery Switch

Here's what you need and I'm considering installing one myself. I do have a built in charger for dockside, but on longer runs to an achorage or a few hours out on the hook this can eliiminate the "oops I left if on Both" scenario.

Blue Sea Systems ACR(Automatic Charging Relay)

When a charging voltage is detected the ACR sends a charge to both banks. So, if you leave your MBSS (main battery selector switch) on #1, start up, run around it will charge BOTH until you shut down. Then if you have the radio on all day and drain #1, you have #2 to start and return home and the ACR will allow BOTH to charge again.

What Brand Model is that battery charger? This looks like something I'd like to beable to do.

I would be interested in the charger information and the plug. I currently use an inexpensive automotive charger but it requires me to get in the boat, move the seat cushions and clip on the charger. The marine chargers or stand alone RV chargers seem to be expensive. I wonder if I could hard wire my automotive charger.

I did buy a Yandina battery Combiner which is similar to the blue sea. I have not installed it yet but it looks very simple and you avoid the hassle of changing between batteries to ensure the charge.

Don't hardwire the Auto Charger in there. It's not made for that and doesn't have the ignition protection the Marine units do.

Also, it is not recommended to use a simple extension cord to act as your shore power. I understand that for the smaller boats not originally set up for shore power it's a quick and easy fix. I used to do it myself on my 230OV, but have learned through this site I was endangering the dock, my boat and more importantly my family.

Also, Estello has the appropriate charger for your application. Looks like a Guest. A nice charger Installed similarly will give you the peace of mind.
ProMariner makes a Promite that has models up ot 3 banks
and run around $69-$150.

can you use the ACR by Blue Sea with the standard ON/OFF/Both selector? or do you have to replace it with one make for the ACR?

Yes you can use it with any MBSS. It actually looks like Wesley already has the MBSS unit that Blue Sea packages teh ACR with.

Nehalennia is right. My charger is a guest charge pro 10 Amp.

The outlet is strickly for the charger and a bilge heater. The boat is kept on a trailer.
