I would appreciate your recommendations for replacing of all 4 batteries in my 2006 340 Sundancer. Admittedly, I am somewhat battery-naive.

ALL deep cycle or 2 starter/2 deep cycle?

"Wet", "gel", and/or "ASM"?

Group sizes?

Thank you!

Not gel - heat sensitive. Not Wet - high maintenance and don't last very long.

Get AGM. All the same - do not vary types on same battery charging circuit. I have the same as Scott (727 guy above).

Get deep cycle. They have plenty of cranking amps and make much more sense than heavy cranking batteries for boat operations.

According to Sea Ray - on my 320 - the battery trays will handle up to Group 31's.

Based on my minor research, I can assume our charging systems O.K. for the ASM batteries?

I read that these batteries have to have more specific battery charging systems to function properly and for longevity.

Thanks again.

It is probably fine. I did nothing. AGM are Lead-Acid batteries, just like "Wet Cells." Gels are the ones you need to worry about.

Ive poasted this before . Check out the Sears AGMS . DieHard Marine Battery, Platinum PM-1 - Group Size 31M

Awesome battery. Do a comparison of CCA etc.. impressive battery!

If you decide to stick with something simpler than AGMs give local MarineMax a shot. They have pretty good group 31 batteries ($100-$120), which I'm using with no issues.

+1.... Sears Marine Group 31 AGM's. Best investment I have made to our boat!

Interstate flooded wet cell group 27 batteries. Have to add water to them every month or so, but 4 or 5 years at only $65/each just can't be beat. If you are away from your boat a lot or can't access the batteries to top up the water or too lazy to maintain them, get AGMs. But I don't believe that for four times the price of flooded cells that AGMs give four times the performance.

Actually, my main problem with batteries is that they are heavy. Seems like I drop one every year or two and have to replace it. Oh well. Doubt even AGMs survive a 4 or 5 foot drop.

Your mileage may vary.

Best regards,
Frank
