Have a question regarding replacing the battery for my Gen. Last year at the end of the season the Gen. would hardly start. So I am going to replace the battery this year. Here my question would it be better to replace it with a deep cycle battery or would a standard starting battery be okay. The way my system is wired is the battery for the Gen. is only for the Gen.

Thanks Mike

The battery for you generator is designed to start the generator....period. It is not a house battery and shouldn't be considered one. In fact, it could be considered your emergency battery to start the main(s) because starting the generator will provide the necessary AC voltage to run the converter to charge the mains' batteries.

I vote....a battery with the most MCA that will fit.

I agree with Dom. Your setup is like mine and that battery does not get cycled at all so going with a starting/high MCA battery is appropriate.

My generator won't run with a bad battery... it shuts off and gives a bunch of non-sense error codes. I got 5 years out of the original wet cell battery and could have dropped a another wet cell lead acid in its place but went with an AGM because I HATE servicing batteries. Especially ones that are difficult to get to like my generator battery.
