What could be draining the batteries when the boat is on a trailer in storage? Is there a way to prevent this?

Well Bob, there's not alot of information here to go on. Is your battery switch shut off? Many electronics have memories that require a small current draw when they are off such as a stereo and probably some navigation electronics. Some bilge pumps are microprocessor controlled and can draw down also. Give a little better description of your set up and electronics and I'm sure others will be able to chime in with more specific diagnosis! Good luck and welcome to CSR!

If you have a Mercathode system, I think they drain a little even with the battery swithces off and the boat out of the water...as Scott said, pull the plug.

Do you have Mercathodes on your outdrives? If so, thats the problem, they are hot wired to the batteries bypassing the switches so that you are proteced even when the bat switch is off. I found this out the first year I had my boat with Mercathodes. You have to disconnect the cables from your batteries to be sure they are disconnected unless you can find the fuses to them and remove that instead.

In addition my shower/AC drain pump under the aft berth comes on every 2 minutes and is hot wired to the batteries.
