Battery disconnect relay

I am experiencing that my starter battery keeps dying on me so I am having some problem with overcharging or something. While trying to map out how this all is connected I encountered the battery disconnect relay. I am reading it is used to disconnect the battery banks, but isn't that what my main switch is for? There's a bunch of small signal cables going from this thing to the back side of the panel with breakers and the main switch but I have no idea where they connect. Anyone that knows about this relay and if it is worth keeping? I thought this would be the battery separator.
