battery charging system

I tried to start my boat today and the #1 battery was dead. I had to move my battery switch to the #2 position. I looked at the charging system and it did not appear to be charging. should it be showing a charge"?

I have the converter breaker on and the charger does not shoe it putting out a charge.

What is the voltage at the battery when the charger is connected? If it shows above 13 volts the charger is working and the ammeter gauge may be bad. If the batteries show 12 volts or so, the charger is not working. There may be an internal fuse. Disconnect shore power (unplugged, not at the switch). Take the cover off and look for a fuse on the circuit board.

In most cases like yours I would say yes unless you have made some large modifications that increase your draw significantly.

No modifications made. The 20 amp system is $255 on Amazon. Seems like a good prices.

If the battery went dead because the charger was off, the battery is junk
If the battery went dead because you left something on, dont do it again.
good batteries dont just go dead.
Nothing should be wired to an engine battery except the engine

The battery has maintained a charge for a couple of months, but it was due to be replaced. My charging system needs updating anyway.
