I seem to have noticed my battery charger not operating while getting ready to splash. It is the Inteli-Power Pd2030 series. I know I have seen it on this year, but the last 2 days , no power light or green charging light. I went through the steps of checking the unit. I have 117 volts on the inlet side. I disconnected the output common wire and then read from that terminal to each of the 3 positive outputs. I am getting no reading at all, and I (tried with meter leads reversed too). I checked the fuse in the unit and found it was fine. It indicates that the unit is defective. I wondered if anyone else had any experience with this or if I am overlooking something?

Are your batteries are completely dead??????
If your answer is yes, you need to charge them before you connect them to charger :) !!!! Yes, that is "inteli :)" charger. It needs to sense I think at least 6 or 8 volts on battery to start charging.

Boatmailster, The battery's are charged and read 12v. They started the engines with no trouble at all. I dont want to replace it if I am missing something? Thanks for the help.

Turn off engines and all accessories and turn on your charger. Wait 5-10 mins and check voltage on batteries. It should be around 13 - 14 volts. Also listen if your charger making a "buzz". If it is "quiet" and fuse inside (cant remember this model, but there could be two fuses: one for 110v side, second for 12v output) unit may have to be repaired or replaced. Check your warranty, maybe is still cover.

I have no output from the charger. The red power light isnt on and the green charging light either. Thanks for your help. I only found one fuse inside which was good and only a 2 year warranty.

I called Progressive Dynamics on Tuesday morning and explained the situation to them. They told me the charger was defective (and out of warranty). They have a repair/exchange program for their product and would have a 1 year warranty. I took advantage of this and received the unit today. Hopefully I can install it this weekend. It cost me $75 bucks. Any thoughts?

$75 not bad.
try to turn on/off each breaker not just main - is put too much stress on charger.
new chargers are very "sensitive":)
old styles melted before died:)

I installed the reconditioned charger today and except for the physical size being a slight bit different, it is operating fine. I just thought I would let everyone know. I have heard comments around the marina that temperature can effect these. For example being connected to shore power with the engine running probably is not a good idea.

glad you found and had the problem fixed. $75 is not bad at all... the green light (as you found ) should always be lit if the AC Converter (we have the same) breaker is one. The rate at which the red light blinks is the variable item. Note that you can extend your warranty by 1 year for $25 from the company directly http://www.progressivedyn.com/warrantypage1.html

The operating temps for this unit is 50C to -10C (122F - 14F) storage temps are a bit more....

it is not a good idea when your engines are running an batt. charger is "ON"
rest of electrical system is not affected by alternators just charger
about temperature - yes they are getting very hot , some models have automatic fan installed inside case
when overheating they "should" shut down but sometimes they fail before that
