I need to replace my battery charger, it is the Pro Mariner 30 (3 bank) and is original to the boat. I have regualr wet cell batteries. Did a little bit of research already and my head is spinning, just wondering what some of you guys have recently installed and your opinions about your choice.......thanks.

i installed dual bank Promariner charger a couple years ago and have no issues....the new generation of chargers are 'smart' chargers....they monitor the level of charge in each battery and vary the charge to each battery accordingly....when the battery is fully charged the charger will then maintain a full charge without the risk of overcharging....i leave my charger plugged in all the time while my boat is on the trailer and at home, including during winter storage....

Give Promariner customer service a call they will give you a great discount as a returning customer really easy and fast.

I put a Xantrex smart charger in with a link 1000 they have a new Link now not sure of the number. This system has worked great for me not only in this boat for 4 years but my last one for 3 years. Once installed and set up it keeps all my batteries charged to the correct level but it also charges at the correct rate. My batteries are 4 years old and are just as strong as the day I installed them. One starting battery for the genny and two golf cart batteries for the house.

That's what worked for me too. I had an issue last year with the replacement and they honored the warranty and sent out a new unit quickly. I am very happy with Pro Mariner's service.

That will be the easiest and cheapest options, PM servise is very good.

...But questions have ben raised about Todd's wiring job. :smt043

I installed the Promariner Pronautic P 1240 (3 bank 40 amp charger) and have been very pleased with it. Did it myself. Only hiccup was that the posts for the wiring were a bit fatter than the closed-loop crimp on connectors that were installed with the Progressive Dyn charger that came with the boat. Quick trip to advanced auto for some crimp ons that were for larger guage wire and with larger loops, and back in business. So far so good, just wishing I had gotten the remote monitor too!

Jim,

Your PM box is full, thanks for the offer.............ordered a ProNautic 1230 (3 bank 30 amp) yesterday morning because of the good reviews on the customer service and if Todd can wire one up, anybody can...........just messing with ya Todd.

One tip I learned the hard way is to take pictures of everything before you work on it even battery bank wiring. Wiring can be real confusing if you aren't working with it all the time remove all the covers off the old charger take more pictures. Hope all goes well.

Thanks Bob & Sue,

I deal with complex wiring all the time with commercial HVAC systems, wiring diagrams are a bonus if available, otherwise mark everything before removing.

I recently replaced my Charge Pro with a new Charge Pro (new model). I did research first and decided to stick with the same brand as wiring was exactly the same (able to use same cables already on board) and the unit itself was nearly identical in size (minimized need to drill new holes).

promariner for me. Guys here said it was good, I got one, I love it.

Good news ending, just posting in case anyone else experiences this syndrome... keep reading!

So my new promariner conked out and wouldnt charge. Showed a flashing red fault and had 0.0 reading for volts while clicking down from 40 amps to 0. Cooling fan ran on full speed the entire time. After contacting promariner tech support, they said to pull it out and send it back. Did so and they found the issue with it, repaired it, and had it back within a week. Cant say enough good things about the company. While I wish it hadn't had an issue, they made it as painess as possible, aside from mailing me a new one so I could swap it out while removing the old one. Then again, I understand how it goes with warranty claims, and needing to make sure there wasn't any misuse/abuse involved.
