Howdy,

anyone with a 1998 230BR 7.4mpi with a dual battery setup have a recommendation on battery brand/size to use? Boat is tucked away still and I can't get to it right now but would like to have them bought already when i bring the boat home.

Thanks, Jason

Duracell AGM's from Sams. Group 31s would be nice if they fit.

Are the batteries switched? Is there a charger? Are you to trailer the rig? Lot's of unknowns w/ regard to keeping them serviced.

If you have a NAPA auto near you, Deka group 31 HD equipment/truck batteries. vibration and shock resistant, 1050 MCA, 175 RC, maintenance free, 18 month replacement warranty, prorated warranty after 18 months, and only $79.

I'm considering a dual battery upgrade. I was thinking that I would need a starting battery for the motor and either a deep cycle or hybrid starting/deep cycle for the house battery. I guess it would depend on how your system is wired if you needed two starting batteries or the combo like I'm thinking about. The Napa deal does sound pretty good. I've done well with their batteries before.

That price you got on the Group 31 bat is awesome, their website has it at $139.55

I just replaced my 4 batteries in the offseason with Group 31 Interstate Marine AGM's, pricey little buggers. I had various Group 27 wet cells before.

The batteries on the boat had a year or two too many when I bought it last fall, and hanging on a mooring for the weekend always involved more generator time than my neighbors might have wanted, so it was time to clean house. I figured I'd go with the extra capacity of the Group 31's and the maint-free nature of the AGM's. I did configure my battery charger for the new batteries, it has an AGM setting. Some older chargers may not.

Still can't get over the price that was quoted for that Group 31 Napa battery, that's a bargain!

Interesting there is such a price difference. I do live close to their distribution center, and a few hours from their manufacturing, so maybe inexpensive shipping is the price difference.
All of the stores in my surrounding area sell for $79.99.
