I have a 2004 at Sea Ray 280 Sundancer. My third season with the boat. The previous owner had just purchased new batteries prior to selling the boat. I got two and a half good seasons out of them no issues. One of the batteries started failing. The batteries were two 1050 CCA flooded marine batteries and one was an 850 CCA flooded. One of the threads I read said, all batteries should be the same size previous to 2007 because the on board battery charger cannot differentiate between battery sizes and will not give a proper charge. The battery that failed was on the port side and we used a lot of DC power over a weekend trip in the middle of a bay with no shore power. Looking for some suggestions on battery type and size for the 04 280. Thanks

What is the current battery setup? How many banks, how many batteries in each bank, and what specific battery charge do you have? Sorry for the questions - but things gets changes on a boat - and cant assume you still have a factory setup.

Generally - you keep the same type of battery chemistry for all batteries - as the chargers can only be set one way (flooded lead acid, sealed, agm, etc).

Second - each battery in a bank should be the same size. If you need to replace a single battery within a bank - you normally want to replace the entire bank. Different age batteries perform differently and can impact the entire bank.

No, I appreciate all the questions and taking the time to reply. I have two banks. It looks like its the original factory installed charger. The port bank has two batteries. They are both flooded lead acid. However, one battery is 1050 and the other was 840. The starboard side has one 1050 flooded lead acid. They all appear to be 2018.

Thanks I wound upalmost the same exact thing. I have two 1050 series 27 starting and a 1000 series 27 dual purpose battery. I have two battery selector switches. One is the usual 1 both 2, and the other switch is on/off.

I am just a couple of weeks away from reinstalling the engines. I did pretty much a complete refit. Thanks for the kind words. 795EE124-B6B7-4F75-BA51-0581ECAC2C0C.jpeg49E5AC8D-757A-40B4-AE89-0EF7105352D3.jpegD2D152EC-E0BF-487A-AB45-BD7F148A6CC3.jpeg795EE124-B6B7-4F75-BA51-0581ECAC2C0C.jpeg49E5AC8D-757A-40B4-AE89-0EF7105352D3.jpegD2D152EC-E0BF-487A-AB45-BD7F148A6CC3.jpeg29FD32DC-4247-4FFE-A17A-63DAC00B300F.jpegB3514854-1745-456F-B1C6-9DE8E9F47753.jpeg08A1EEA6-52A0-44C5-B828-DA91B1A6EEAF.jpeg37C04D61-F4CD-4F93-9B39-03C3F7E8D11E.jpeg
