Engines
454 Mercruiser w/Bravo 111 drive
I'm trying to figure out the wiring on my 78 260 sundancer and how I'd want the batteries and circuits set up. I saw this quote from 2017 here on Classic Sea Rays which sounds right to me. I'm curious if others agree or have any other ideas or suggestions. Appreciate any comments. Here is the quote:
  1. If it makes the boat go, it should draw from the cranking. if you want to operate it while engine off, it should draw from the house.
  2. Starter, Instrumentation, Outdrive Tilt Pump, Trim Tabs= CRANKING
Nav Lights, Cabin and Cockpit lights, GPS, VHF, Music, Charging Ports (USB), Bilge, blower, horn, wipers= HOUSE

Pro "Mite"? That's the (most likely) original battery charger. I'd be surprised if it was still working - and if so, the new Pro Mariners (like the ProNautic series) are light years ahead of that old dinosaur and are MUCH better for your batteries.

There's no "standard" amount of batteries. Also, what was originally used in 1978 or changed by any previous owner over the past 4 decades has no impact on what YOU should do. You should see battery trays, though? However, how are you going to use the boat? Maybe you only need one battery... maybe you two or three.

My elementary Phys Ed teacher was Mr. Hammer!

Still working- 78, wow when I got my 91 last year it had th old blue Pro Mariner original. My electrician was in bilge wiring something for me and said the charger was so hot it was ready to flame up. Turned it off and replaced in2 days. Watch that thing.
