Considering upgrading my batteries, charging system and addding a inverter-charger. I like having a remote control with charging and battery monitoring offered with the newer units. I would like to increase the house batteries so I can run about 500 watts for several hours without running the gen. Do these newer inverters-chargers allow you to use a bank of AGM batteries and another bank of flood batteries? Your suggestions and experiences are welcome. 2002 340 Sundancer

Wow, that's a fair load, 42amps.

Libby, it has been my experience in upgrading my previous boats charging system that you had to stay with one type of battery. I chose all AGM batteries for their durability and no maintenance. I would be interested in the details of how you do this project on your boat as I currently have a 2002 340 and that is next on my list!

When I redid the system in my Silverton I created three banks of batteries, port, starboard, and generator. On the port and starboard sides I had a series 31 AGM and a 27 AGM with the 31 going to the house and the 27 for starting. I isolated the house and starting battery with an automatic charging relay that connected them while charging and split them when discharging. The generator was its own bank so that in the worst case I could start the generator and recharge the system. Let me know if you want any details. Rob
