I would like to update the plain bathroom door to match the cheery cabinet laminate. has anyone done this? would like to simply glue a skin vs replace the door. I have a 2000 340. Appreciate any guidance.....

It is somewhat as easy as you described. What you can do is take the door off the hinges, lay it flat on a bench. If the existing laminate is adhered properly and not peeling anywhere than it would be best to lay the veneer over the properly prepared laminate.

Once you determined the laminate has a good bond with the existing door than prep the laminate with a belt sander or a good sander with a 80 grit paper to scour the plastic laminate face to prepare it for glue. This will remove any oils and rough up the surface to allow the contact cement to adhere. The contact cement will not have good adhesion if you skip this step and it is imperative to make sure the sanded surface is extremely smooth and clean otherwise any imperfections will come thru the veneer.

Next, apply 1 coat of DAP contact cement to the door and than 1 coat to the veneer. If the veneer is paper backed that 1 coat is good if it is not paper backed than 2 coats will be needed. This all must be done in a dust free, clean environment. Any dust, glue balls, etc. will show through the veneer. Once the contact cement is set than grab a friend and lay the veneer on the door. Be extremely careful once the to areas meet the "contact" cement will stick and it will be difficult to correct.

Once the veneer is laid flat on the door, press it real good with a formica roller or a smooth block of wood and trim the edges with a file. The edges must be trimmed very good or it will catch your clothing and peel.

Once this is complete you can lightly sand as you normally prepare a wood surface, seal and finish.

If you plan on the entire door, do the edges first, back side than the face last.

Good luck.
