97 250da. 2 new bateries Both hooked to switch, both go dead with switch in off position and sitting on a trailer. I did find 3 grounds not connected to the ground post, so got those connected and still goes dead. Any ideas would be helpfull. Changed a bit and tied the 2 together and added a 3rd, stayed out for the weekend limited use of the 12volt system and starts and they are on the way to dead again.

When you recharge them, does the alternator works and keeps them charged? Assuming it does you would need to find what's in your boat hooked up directly to the battery (regardless whether the switches are ON or OFF). The first thought is that one of the pumps (bildge or shower) is stuck in running position.

Only other wires that go directly to the batterys is 1 to each the house set and the starting from the onboard charger. Don't think anything else is direct hookup. As far as the altinater it seems to work by the gauge but still ending up short on charge.

I had the same problem. There might be an on/off switch on your fridge. Check that. Bring the batteries to Auto Zone and they will test them for free. Then its a prosess of elmimination.

Check your electronics. The VHF radio may be wired direct.

Have you checked the pumps? From my experience, sometimes after a bumpy ride the float switch on the shower pump gets stuck in ON postion and trigger the pump. I always have crewdriver not too far in the drawer to take those 4 screwses out and "reset" the switch. This was observed on both 240 and 320.

Update: Horn is dead and the vhf radio is dead. Horn shouldn't draw as you have to use the switch unless switch is bad. Vhf radio is fried so it is now out of the boat. Alt. had i believe was a orange wire that looks like it runs around to the starter with a very crappy connection at the alt., cut the crimp on connecter off and reterminated it along with cleaning the post. Show much better voltage on the dash gauge. Haven't looked at the shower sump bildge, but it has been sitting on trailer and not in the water. Did clean sump box and all interior workings. Making progress batterys not dead but not full charge. Only other thing i see is on the charger/inverter the charge gauge doesn't work but charger seems to be working. Could there be something going on with the charger? Fridge switch is confirmed off.

Charger/inverter ?? An inverter not only converts 12V to 110 but it also draws power. Is anything plugged into the inverter ??

Not sure if it is a acuall charger/inverter or just a charger. It is what was put on the boat at the factory.

How flat did your batteries go? - If they went very very flat or over-flat a number of times it could be you'll not get a full charge into them again..

You might have fixed the original issue with the alternator connection but won't see it if your batteries have passed-on..

investigate the pumps
they are wired hot
