Banter, Bashing, Flaming and BS!

I find it humorous that you keep harping about staying out of the holding tank if we don't like the banter and other garbage in it like most of us don't understand that it is for non-boating issues when it is you and others like you who don't seem to grasp that concept. Just look at the boating secotions of the forum and see how many threads you guys corrupt with "Banter, Bashing, Flaming and BS".

You don't find me hanging out in the non-boating sections looking for a confrontation or someone to call an idiot or a bastard........why don't you guys return the favor and restrict your amusement to the holding tank.

You don't know me past my activity on a single boating forum. You are, therefore, in no position to pass judgement on my or anyone else's social skills. This is just one more example of how you and people like you who contribute very little of value to CSR have corrupted the forum by seeking out confrontation for your own amusement. If you don't want us to complain about such activity, then take it to the Holding Tank.

Billandamy: It really isn't that simple, because it is often impossible to have an adult conversation here, even if you turn to the right "station," without the fraternity boys jumping in with childish banter, political bashing, and personal attacks.

P.S. Frank didn't deserve the personal attack above. Are you trying to run him off, or what? In my opinion, you're out of line.

Tschuss Marq. Yes, I'm guilty of my first offense straying off-topic in the seacock thread. Typically I most often enjoy reading the humorous commentary and do not participate. Instead I try to contribute info but with the wealth of knowledgeable boat owners currently on the forum most questions that I can answer are answered before I see them.

In other topics opinions are requested and I contribute as much as I can.

If this forum were limited to the few hundred popular general boating questions that have been kicking around the internet for years there wouldn't be much content, and it will be a sad day when every jokester passes on a seacock thread.

Maybe admin can write a bot to harvest all the knowledge that exists in older threads and then use it to reply to new threads. This way everyone gets an equal unbiased and BS-free response. Redistributing the knowledge if you will....All we do is post questions and the board takes care of us. :smt038

My intention was not to create yet another thread of insults and degradation. My point is many of us, like myself, do not read every thread as many do not concern or interest me. When my interest or curiosity is sparked I hate having to muddle through several pages of BS, banter, bashing etc to find the post that addresses the original question or concern.

All I am suggesting is a bit of courtesy to all of us. As you notice there is little I post and the posts I have made have been straight up and forward. If I want to muddle through BS I'll pick up a copy of Mad Magazine.

'Nuff said cuz I know many of ya'll are just gonna tear this one apart. Stick a fork in me, I'm done!

I agree with you on all points 100 percent. I can’t speak for anyone else but I am sure I am now alone here in sharing your views on the subject.

OK... I'll weigh in on the weekly "Banter, Bashing, and BS" thread.

I think everyone (yes *everyone*) on this thread has made some "banter" here in there over the course of the last few years... at least from what I can remember. Some people don't want any, some people want more, some people think it's fine the way it is... at least from what I've read in the last 46 "Banter, Bashing, and BS" threads. You have extremes on this stuff like boatdiesel.com (which I am a member) but is extremely sterile and I go there maybe once per month to check on things... not real good if you are looking for a site to catch daily visitors with advertising and such. Then there is the other extreme (like cr0ck1's new home at some hunting board) that someone asks a question and it immediately erupts into "I am drunk - and high - and where do you want to clean guns and pimp slap people" talk. I think CSR is in the middle on the banter... there is always good info from some and some banter around it...

Then there's the "bashing"... and we've covered this several times over the last month and some people think if you disagree with them for their stupid comments then it is "bashing"... and maybe it is... Things like "my mechanic tells me water gets pushed up a through hull the faster I go" deserve to get slapped down... and they will... So the "bashing" part usually comes from people not happy that someone pointed out their half-brained ideas are... well... half-brained. For example:

Original Poster: What's the best way to charge my batteries on shore power?

Poster Idiot: My mechanic says to just take an electrical cord and strip each end and connect a wire to each of the battery terminals and plug it in the wall. Do you love me now?

Poster Bash: That answer is wrong and don't listen to that poster. He's making stuff up... You need to (insert better answer).

Poster Idiot: WA WAH WA!!! Why do you have to be such a jerk. I'm telling!

Original Poster: This bashing sucks. I just asked a question.

Poster Idiot: I agree! Let's kick Poster Bash off the board! Do you still love me? Let's go have a beer together and be best friends.

So I'm not sure how to stop the bashing without watering down the integrity of the board. You have to be abrupt with some people...

As far as BS... well... that's usually from the people that post half-brained answers... like giving diesel fuel filter advice from a gas boat person...

Who's turn is it next week to bring this topic up?

You can't make 100% of the people happy 100% of the time...I agree that it got a little out of hand over the past month but if everyone would just stop talking about it, it would go back to normal. Besides, Gary has toned it down a little with some subtle jabs here and there. :smt043
 
Sorry, after reading my reply I decided it's not worth it, especially with all the stuff that will fly back at me, so I edited it out. Back to being a reader ;-)
